7 Ways for Leaders to Communicate Better

  1. Open With Gratitude
Let the first words spoken express something good. It may be a compliment, an acknowledgement of something small or large. Let your words speak to who you are and how you lead.
  2. “Do You Feel Me?”
To communicate effectively, try to engage all five senses. The neuroscience on multi-sensory presentations is clear. When the brain builds two mental models of information–a verbal and visual–the mental connections it makes is much stronger. Add a third, fourth, or even fifth sense and you’ll surely hit a home run.
  3. Heart and Soul
People want to know someone truly cares about them. People want to feel valued. Decisions are made based on emotions and how people are made to feel. Start caring. Show up with your heart and soul. Ears and heart wide open.
  4. Do You
Your message is truly powerful only if it is associated with you, your values and your authentic and honest self. Speak with knowledge and honesty. Be you.
  5. K.I.S.S.
Keep it simple and sweet. Having the right culture and values and the right people with diverse expertise will help you break away from competitors.
  6. Adjust
Conventional moves may not be enough. Being able and willing to adjust to everchanging market realities is essential. Revamp, merge, expand, add scale, diversify. Sometimes you need to do all of these things and more. You must be surrounded by people who will help you grow stronger by adjusting.
  7. All About You
Let’s identify “what’s in it for you” and the perils of the traditional leadership models. In order to reach others, you need to communicate in a way that shows people you also care about what affects them.
